 VIVE LA DIFFERENCE !

The way we make our wines at Domaine du Fontenay is fundamentally different from our immediate neighbours in the Côte Roannaise and from the vast majority of Gamay wine makers. Over the last 20 years modern wine-making techniques have completely dominated the industry. Having started off with these methods and finding them unsatisfactory, we have turned the clock right back to use old fashioned, traditional methods:low yields, no added selected yeasts, no filtering at bottling, no additives at bottling, just to quote a few

We feel that there is a certain irony in that it is the Englishman who is using the methods that local growers’ grandfathers used and which they now consider to be outdated

Although our wines all share the same common grape variety, the Gamay, they have completely different characters which reflect partly the plot from which the grapes come (see Vieilles vignes) and partly the way in which the wine is made(see l'Authentique).

You will find more information on the way we grow our grapes and make the wine on the following pages

If you would like more information on any particular detail please do not hesitate to send us a mail or, even better, come and see how it’s  done at the Domaine itself.

If you would like to buy some wine you can print an order form or become a  partner of our Domaine through www.3dwines.com or www.dinavingardar.com. You will not regret coming all the way from the UK or Sweden to hear Simo tell you all about wine making  at Fontenay.

We can ship anywhere in France but not directly to the U.K. Despite the European Union this is still a complicated and expensive exercice due to different rates of duty from one country to another.  However, we do send wine to a warehouse in Calais from which wine may be collected for a nominal fee and taken into the UK without duty. If you would like to taste before you buy, you can obviously do so at the Domaine. Alternatively, we can send a sample bottle which may be worth your while if you are thinking in terms of getting a few cases to share with friends. Details about all this are on the Order page.
